Giovanni Grasso

 14 October 1873 – Catania Catania 19 December 1930

 

Theater and film actor Giovanni Grasso, is remembered as the greatest tragic actor. He began his career as a puppeteer, in the company of father Angelo.

The stage starts from Nino Martoglio, and together with the theatre company composed of Angelo Musco, Virginia BalistrIeri, Giacinta Pezzana, Rocco Saliba and Totò Majorana, acted in several works, such as Cap and bells, feudalism, Civil death, stone by stone and Cavalleria Rusticana, not only in Italy but also in Spain, Germany, Russia, South America, England, France and United States. Silent film actor, was regarded as the pioneer of this kind internationally with film lost in the dark, directed by Nino Martoglio.
