Al Pacino, born Alfredo James Pacino

New York, 25 April 1940

 

 

Was born in East Harlem, a neighborhood in Manhattan from Salvatore Pacino, insurance agent and restaurateur son of Italian immigrants from San Fratello (Italy), by Rose Gelardi, a housewife, daughter of immigrants Italians from Corleone (Palermo). His father abandoned the family when his son is still in its infancy, leaving him with his mother and grandparents in the South Bronx, in very difficult living conditions.To start smoking at the age of nine and thirteen had already had experience with alcohol and marijuana. It failed several times at school, until at the age of seventeen he decided to interrupt his studies, does a thousand trades for a living, Shoeshine, Porter, worker. In 1961 he was arrested for illegal firearms pass port while the following year her mother died at the age of 43 years. He enrolled in numerous drama schools, waiting for many years to be admitted to the Actors StudioIn the late 1960s is welcomed at the Actors Studio from what, in the years that followed, Pacino will consider his greatest teacher, Lee Strasberg who recognizes him as remarkable acting skills. Takes part in some plays that won him minor awards. The real Al career begins when, in the years ' 70, Francis Ford Coppola chose him to play the character of Michael Corleone, the Godfather .

In 1991 he played the film Fear of love along with Michelle Pfeiffer, in which he plays a Cook, who after his release from jail, begins an affair with a waitress with whom he works together with the same diner. 

The following year she played the Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in Scent of a Woman – women's perfume,women's perfume remake directed by Dino Risi, where Pacino's part was played by Vittorio Gassman. Thanks to this film Al Pacino received an Academy Award for best actor. In the same year he received the nomination for best supporting actor for Americans with Jack Lemmon, Alan Arkin, Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey. 

In 1993 he played former drug dealer Carlito Brigante in Carlito's WayIn 2005 back in theater with the play the Orphans. In 1977 refused various roles in various films to play the role of Michael Corleone.
